Daily Lenten Reflection – Thursday after Ash Wednesday (February 19, 2026)

“Thus says the Lord: I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him” (Deuteronomy 30:19–20).

Lent begins by confronting a truth many prefer to avoid: life is shaped by choices. God does not force obedience or manipulate the human will. He places before every person two paths and speaks plainly about where each one leads. This daily Lenten reflection invites honest reflection on the decisions made quietly each day, often without much thought, yet with lasting consequences.

Modern culture often claims that truth is personal and that moral choices do not really matter as long as intentions feel sincere. Scripture rejects this idea. God defines life not as mere existence, but as relationship with Him. To choose life means choosing to listen to His voice, to trust His guidance, and to remain close when obedience becomes costly. Death, in contrast, is not simply a future event. It begins when the heart slowly turns away from truth.

Faith is not inherited automatically, nor sustained by habit alone. Moses speaks of children because choices ripple outward. What is believed, practiced, and valued today shapes future generations. This is why Lent is not about surface change but about realignment of the heart.

Choosing life does not mean a life without struggle. It means a life rooted in truth, where suffering is not meaningless and obedience is not wasted. God does not hide the cost, but He promises that holding fast to Him leads to real life, not illusion.

Lent presses the soul with a serious question. Will faith remain an idea, or will it become a lived choice that points toward life?
