Your Word Is a Lamp to My Feet — Psalm 119:105

Many people know it as "Your word is a lamp to my feet." It is one of the most loved verses about the Bible, and it gives a simple picture of how God guides us.
In Bible times, there were no streetlights. Anyone walking at night carried a small oil lamp. It did not light up the whole road ahead. It gave just enough light to see the next few steps and avoid stumbling over rocks or falling into holes.
God's word often guides us in the same way. It does not always show us the full plan for our lives. But it gives us enough light for the step in front of us. It shows us how to treat others, how to make right choices, and how to stay close to God today.
This can be hard for us. We would often prefer to see the whole road before we start walking. Yet God invites us to trust Him one step at a time. As we obey the light we have, He gives more light for the next step.
Notice also that the verse speaks of both "feet" and "path." The lamp helps with the small, daily steps, while the light helps with the wider direction of life. God's word speaks to our ordinary decisions as well as our big ones.
A lamp only helps if we carry it with us. A Bible that stays closed on a shelf cannot light our way. When we read it regularly and follow what it says, we will find ourselves walking with more confidence and less confusion.
Today, open God's word and let it light your next step. You may not see the whole road, but you can trust the One who does.
Lord, thank You for Your word. Let it be a lamp to my feet and a light on my path, and help me follow where You lead. Amen.
