On this twenty-first day of Lenten reflection, we draw our hearts towards a poignant plea from Psalm 51:10, "Create in me a clean heart, O God." This verse, emerging from a psalm of repentance, captures the essence of Lent: a time for self-examination, confession, and spiritual renewal.

The request to "create in me a clean heart" is an acknowledgment of our need for inner transformation. It recognizes that true change is not something we can achieve through our own efforts; it must be wrought by God Himself. The psalmist's cry reflects a deep understanding that purity of heart is essential for a right relationship with God, and this purity can only come from the cleansing and renewing work of the Holy Spirit.

Lent is a sacred time to confront the condition of our hearts. It is a time to examine our motivations, desires, and the things that may have taken root in our hearts, such as bitterness, envy, or pride. This season of reflection encourages us to come before God with honesty and humility, seeking His grace to cleanse and renew us.
