Why Do Christians Believe Jesus Is God? A Simple but Powerful Case
If someone is going to be called God, then that person must meet certain criteria. This is not about a title or a myth—it is about identity, character, and power.
To be called God, someone must be holy, sinless, eternal, and able to defeat death. He must have the authority to forgive sins, and He must demonstrate a kind of love that goes beyond human understanding.
Can you think of anyone who fits all of these? There is only one—Jesus.
Jesus lived a life without sin. Even His enemies could not find fault in Him (John 8:46). He forgave sins, not just wrongs done to Him, but sins committed against God (Mark 2:5–7). He raised the dead, healed the sick, calmed storms, and most importantly—He rose from the dead Himself (Luke 24:6).
Jesus claimed to be eternal when He said, "Before Abraham was, I am" (John 8:58). He claimed unity with God in the bold words, "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30). And in the greatest act of divine love, He gave His life for the very people who rejected Him (Rom 5:8).
No prophet, no philosopher, no teacher has ever done all of this. Many have taught good things. Some have inspired generations. But none have conquered the grave or offered eternal life on their own authority.
This is why Christians believe Jesus is God. Not because they were told to, but because His life, death, resurrection, and teachings confirm that He is exactly who He claimed to be.
He is the only one who meets every requirement of true divinity. And He is the only one who offers what no one else can—eternal life with God.
