Daily Lenten Reflection – Wednesday of the First Week of Lent (February 25, 2026)

“Get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you” (James 1:21).

Moral corruption is not hidden. It is everywhere, and it is often called normal. Filth is presented as freedom. Pornography is treated as entertainment. Lies, deceit, greed, covetousness, and adultery are excused in the name of progress and openness. What was once recognized as sin is now defended as personal choice. This daily Lenten reflection brings that reality into the light.

Scripture does not adjust to culture. It confronts it. James gives a clear command. Get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent. Not reduce it. Not manage it. Remove it. This is not about judging others. It begins with the self. Change begins when a person stops pointing outward and starts looking inward.

The consequence of ignoring sin is serious. It does not lead to freedom. It leads to loss of the soul, confusion, and disorder. Sin, when accepted, does not remain contained. It spreads, shapes habits, and hardens the heart. A person who continues in it cannot expect spiritual clarity.

There is only one way forward. Humbly accept the word planted within. The word of God is not information. It is truth that exposes, corrects, and saves. But it must be received with humility. A resistant heart cannot be changed.

Lent is a time to examine what remains within. What moral compromise has been accepted. What sin has been tolerated. What truth has been ignored. These must be removed, not justified.

The call is clear. Remove what destroys. Receive what saves. When the word of God is accepted and acted upon, the path to salvation is opened.
