You Are the Light of the World (Matthew 5:14)

Matthew 5:14 says, "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden." Jesus spoke these words during His Sermon on the Mount, calling His followers to live in a way that reflects God's love and truth. By describing them as the light of the world, He emphasized their role in illuminating the way for others, showing them the path to God through their actions and character. Today, this verse reminds us of our responsibility as Christians to be a positive influence in the world. In a society that often seems filled with darkness and negativity, we are called to shine brightly, demonstrating kindness, compassion, and integrity. Our lives should reflect the light of Christ, offering hope and guidance to those around us. By living according to Jesus’ teachings, we can help others see the beauty and truth of God's love. Making this reflection personal, we can consider how we can be a light in our own communities. Are we showing kindness to our neighbor

Sixteenth Day of Lenten Reflection: "Walk by faith, not by sight"

On this sixteenth day of Lenten reflection, we turn our attention to a principle that is at the very heart of Christian living: "Walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7). These words, penned by the Apostle Paul, encapsulate a profound truth about the nature of our journey with God. They remind us that faith, rather than what we physically see or perceive, should guide our steps.

To "walk by faith" means to live in reliance on God, trusting in His promises and guidance, even when they lead us through paths that are uncertain or challenging to our human understanding. This kind of walking requires a deep trust in the character of God and His plans for us, which often surpass our limited comprehension or expectations.

Lent is a season that calls for reflection on our faith journey. It is a time to assess how much we are willing to trust God, especially in situations where our understanding falls short. Are we relying on our own sight — our perceptions, knowledge, and experiences — or are we truly walking by faith, grounded in the belief that God's ways and thoughts are higher than ours?

"Walking by faith" also implies a commitment to follow Christ even when it is counter-cultural or difficult. It is about making choices that align with God's will, even when they don’t make sense from a worldly perspective. Jesus Himself exemplified this walk of faith, choosing the path of obedience to the Father, leading to the cross for our salvation.

Furthermore, this principle challenges us to look beyond immediate appearances and circumstances. In a world that often judges success by material standards or popular acclaim, walking by faith calls us to seek eternal and spiritual truths. It’s a journey that values what God values — love, justice, mercy, and humility — over worldly achievements or accolades.

Walking by faith also means trusting in God's timing and provision. In times of uncertainty or waiting, faith reassures us that God is at work, even when we cannot see the immediate results. It invites us to live with hope and patience, confident that God's plans for us are good and His timing is perfect.

As we continue our Lenten reflection, let us strive to walk by faith. May we deepen our trust in God, seek His guidance in all things, and hold onto the promises of His Word. In doing so, we will find that our path, though not always clear to our sight, is securely guided by the One who walks beside us every step of the way.
