Is the Trinity Biblical? What Jesus Himself Revealed
Many people question whether the Trinity is truly found in the Bible, mainly because the word “Trinity” does not appear in Scripture. From this, some conclude that it is a later invention. However, this misses an important point. The question is not whether the word exists, but whether the truth it describes is revealed.
The clearest place to begin is with Jesus Himself.
At His baptism, something remarkable happens. Jesus is in the water, the Holy Spirit descends like a dove, and a voice from heaven declares, “This is my beloved Son.” In that moment, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all present. This is not interpretation. It is a direct event described in the Gospels.
Jesus also gave a direct command to His followers. In Matthew 28:19, He told them to baptize “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” This is important. He did not say “names,” but “name,” singular. One name, yet three persons. This is not accidental language.
This alone is enough to establish the foundation.
The Trinity is not a theory added later. It is drawn from what Jesus revealed. The Father is God. The Son is God. The Holy Spirit is God. Yet there is only one God.
At this point, some expect a full explanation that fits human logic. But this is where humility is required. Not everything about God can be fully understood by the human mind. If God were small enough to be completely explained, He would not be God.
The Trinity is not a contradiction. It is a reality revealed by Jesus that goes beyond human limitation.
The word may not be in the Bible, but the truth is clearly there.
That is why the Trinity is biblical.
